The 5th Series Indented Land Triple Test Description

The view from the news tent is picturesque where we are situated high on a hilltop, overlooking the valley of the Randy and Mary Spangler property. The 5th Series is an Indented Land Triple with a long right-hand Retired Bird. The Judges are clever & have included two stand-out Flyer stations one of which is indented. This factor will add a ton of excitement for both the dog & the handler.

The 1st bird shot (distance is 310 yards) is a dead Rooster Pheasant thrown hard angle-back left into medium cover. The dead pheasant station is located on a hillside, then retires disappearing from view in a grove of Sumac trees. We will refer to this bird as the Right Retired (RR) in our descriptions.

The 2nd bird (LF) (distance is 240 yards)  is located on a hilltop wide-left of the test, this Rooster Pheasant is thrown long and strong to the right, landing down the hill about 40 yards away from the gun station. This flyer is a thing of beauty, as it has a huge arc and spirals through the air.  It is very entertaining to watch this bird shot.

The 3rd and final bird (distance 164 yards) to go down is the indented middle flyer. (MF) This bird is located in the valley, about equal distance to the two longer birds, and has 4 gunners strategically placed about 5 feet apart sitting in the neutral position in plain view. The bird is a Hen Pheasant flyer, shot hard-angled back right, over a distinct path that travels up the hill. This bird is quite visible and lands on the hillside.

Conditions REPORT - 5th Series

It was a wild ride, with the news team, driving over to the 5th Series located on the Spangler property.  It is a beautiful late morning here, with over cast clouds, and a slight cool breeze coming out of the East at about 10 to 12 miles per hour. The temp is currently 64 degrees with a high level of humidity in the air.

The 3rd and 4th Series Interrupted Land Double with a Water Blind Test Descriptions

Series 3 and 4 Tests for Tuesday and Current Test Conditions

This morning, we are back at the Third and Fourth Test Combination Series located on Jack and Laraine Unbehaun's beautiful property. We are beginning the morning with different conditions than yesterday with cloudy skies, the sun peeking through and a stiff wind out of the east that has just come up. Cover is medium to heavy in this gorgeous field over-looking a slightly technical pond. The tests consists of a set of double interrupted watermarks with a water blind.

The handler instructions are that the marks will be shot first and the handler is to pull the dog off of the marks and then run a water blind. The water blind is to be completed and then the marks are to be picked up. We have a long bird throwing a mallard drake, shooting twice and throwing the bird from left to right. This bird is at 330 yards and will retire after the flyer has been shot. The flyer is shorter and left of the long bird measuring 118 yards. It is a mallard as well.  This bird is thrown from right to left. The gunners have been instructed to maintain a neutral position. (meaning they are to be facing the handler at the line, not indicating which way the bird has been thrown)

The blind is run down a hill along the side of a pond for about 68 yards, before the dog reaches the water, where then the  dog is required to get into a small channel, and angle the channel to the shore where the rooster pheasant is planted. at the base of tree.  The blind is calculated at 173 yards.

Stats...

92 dogs have run the 3rd series, 21 dogs have handled so far in 3rd, 15 dogs have been pick ups so far in the 3rd, 15 handles from the 1st series came into the 3rd, it does not appear a 1 series handle and 3 series handle has been committed where the dog did not pick up in the 3rd, there are numerous "significant" hunts from the 1st and 3rd series that are also in the judges book - we have 20 dogs to run this morning.
