Running Order for Wednesday Morning
Due to the no birds that we experienced late in the day on Tuesday, the running order is as follows:
42, 43, 36, 45, 46, 40, 47 ... then we will run in numerical order again.
Extenuating Circumstances
The Retriever News Team has been having a very difficult time keeping the blog going, and we have overcome extenuating circumstances to report the news to everyone! Just so that everyone out there has an idea of how much hard work goes in to making this blog available each day for our followers. It has been a grueling day. We have been having to hand off notebooks Pony Expressing the information over long distances with the all of the test descriptions...... having a single person sitting out stationary the ENTIRE day (and into the night) watching every dog run and recording those results....and then another single person taking photos to share from the line and more......and only two people to fill in the gaps, dictate the reports and typing it all up. From 5 am until 7 pm (and sometimes past midnight) our team has been going strong! There is a lot of exhaustion, as I'm sure many of the volunteer workers here at the NARC event are feeling right along with us!! Our internet connection has been very spotty out in the field, however all of the landowners have graciously made their homes and their wi-fi available for us to use, which has been a life saver! All in an effort to share this historical event for those whom cannot attend, and also for everyone who IS in attendance each day and reviewing their dogs performance!
We are working hard to stay up to date! Thanks for all the support everyone! And PLEASE, PLEASE post comments & questions to the BLOG. We are enjoying all of the interaction with our cyber-gallery.
Conditions REPORT
It is getting toward the end of the day, the trees are casting shadows on the hillside. It seems to be affecting the dogs in their ability to mark and retrieve the birds successfully. The wind has gone still in the valley and the humidity has significantly dropped as well. We had have had several handles and pick-ups in a row.

The 5th Series Indented Land Triple Test Description
The view from the news tent is picturesque where we are situated high on a hilltop, overlooking the valley of the Randy and Mary Spangler property. The 5th Series is an Indented Land Triple with a long right-hand Retired Bird. The Judges are clever & have included two stand-out Flyer stations one of which is indented. This factor will add a ton of excitement for both the dog & the handler.
The 1st bird shot (distance is 310 yards) is a dead Rooster Pheasant thrown hard angle-back left into medium cover. The dead pheasant station is located on a hillside, then retires disappearing from view in a grove of Sumac trees. We will refer to this bird as the Right Retired (RR) in our descriptions.
The 2nd bird (LF) (distance is 240 yards) is located on a hilltop wide-left of the test, this Rooster Pheasant is thrown long and strong to the right, landing down the hill about 40 yards away from the gun station. This flyer is a thing of beauty, as it has a huge arc and spirals through the air. It is very entertaining to watch this bird shot.
The 3rd and final bird (distance 164 yards) to go down is the indented middle flyer. (MF) This bird is located in the valley, about equal distance to the two longer birds, and has 4 gunners strategically placed about 5 feet apart sitting in the neutral position in plain view. The bird is a Hen Pheasant flyer, shot hard-angled back right, over a distinct path that travels up the hill. This bird is quite visible and lands on the hillside.

The
handler instructions are that the marks will be shot first and the
handler is to pull the dog off of the marks and then run a water blind.
The water blind is to be completed and then the marks are to be picked
up. We have a long bird throwing a mallard drake, shooting twice and
throwing the bird from left to right. This bird is at 330 yards and will
retire after the flyer has been shot. The flyer is shorter and left of
the long bird measuring 118 yards. It is a mallard as well. This bird
is thrown from right to left. The gunners have been instructed to
maintain a neutral position. (meaning they are to be facing the handler
at the line, not indicating which way the bird has been thrown)
The
blind is run down a hill along the side of a pond for about 68 yards,
before the dog reaches the water, where then the dog is required to get
into a small channel, and angle the channel to the shore where the
rooster pheasant is planted. at the base of tree. The blind is
calculated at 173 yards.
