The 6th Series Single Land Blind
The Judges have displayed tough tests with well placed bird to showcase these amazing retrievers who have traveled far and wide to prove what they are made. The 6th Series will not disappoint those watching from afar and via the web. The Retriever News Team has a birds-eye view of this difficult single land blind which is going to begin at the of a hill.
We will describe this Land Blind(LB) in three parts: Beginning, Middle and the End
From the line the dog travels down the steep hillside toward the Middle Flyer (MF) from the 5th Series Indented Land Triple. The first obstacle the dogs encounter are varies cover strip of varying cover depths. The next obstacle to maneuver in the beginning of this Land Blind (LB) is a grassy ridge where a strategically placed hay bale is inches to the right of the line to the blind.
The Middle of the blind becomes very meaty since the dogs will be required to run thru the fall area of the MF. Then they must drive the hill to a thick cover-line that has a gentle roll to the right with the potential hazard of the handler loosing sight of the dog behind large bushy trees.
The End looks very harmless, however these clever Judges have placed the blind planter to the right up the hill hidden in a group of pines. This well placed blind is located on a sidehill where the terrain gently rolls to the right. The bird is place at the edge of a cover strip and will require some finesse to retrieve the bird clean.

The 5th Series Indented Land Triple w/a Long Right-hand Retired Bird Cont......
The view from the news tent is picturesque where we are situated high
on a hilltop, overlooking the valley of the Randy and Mary Spangler
property. The 5th Series is an Indented Land Triple with a long
right-hand Retired Bird. The Judges are clever & have included two
stand-out Flyer stations one of which is indented. This factor will add a
ton of excitement for both the dog & the handler.
The
1st bird shot (distance is 310 yards) is a dead Rooster Pheasant thrown
hard angle-back left into medium cover. The dead pheasant station is
located on a hillside, then retires disappearing from view in a grove of
Sumac trees. We will refer to this bird as the Right Retired (RR) in
our descriptions.
The 2nd bird (LF) (distance is 240
yards) is located on a hilltop wide-left of the test, this Rooster
Pheasant is thrown long and strong to the right, landing down the hill
about 40 yards away from the gun station. This flyer is a thing of
beauty, as it has a huge arc and spirals through the air. It is very
entertaining to watch this bird shot.
The 3rd and
final bird (distance 164 yards) to go down is the indented middle flyer.
(MF) This bird is located in the valley, about equal distance to the
two longer birds, and has 4 gunners strategically placed about 5 feet
apart sitting in the neutral position in plain view. The bird is a Hen
Pheasant flyer, shot hard-angled back right, over a distinct path that
travels up the hill. This bird is quite visible and lands on the
hillside.
38. FC-AFC Great Bunns Of Fire (Jerry Lee), LF, Lynne DuBose
Miss "Jerry Lee" ran the test Tues. Eve
MF: had a substantial hunt
LF: Fantastic mark.
RR: began to hunt the side hill short of the area and took just a minute to work it out for a successful retrieve.
Conditions Report
The wind has changed to the Northeast, East and a bit cooler this am. The current temps 51'F and a high of 77'F with a low Dew Point of 45% this should make for good scenting conditions. Let the games begin!!!
Once the 5th Series has concluded the 6th Series will remain on the Spangler grounds as a Land Blind will ensue.
Re-Run 33. FC-AFC Moody’s Medicine Man (Doc), LM, Michael Moore
MF: Smacked it!
